Eustace ''A Momma's Boy''? by Rebekah Walton
We just recently got news that Eustace cries ''Mother'' when they are swept away by the picture into Narnia in the movie. (This was before the trailer.) There is only one way this could be good.if this is the only time he calls his mum mother and the rest of the time he calls her Alberta. Then if in this moment of fear he calls her Mother, maybe, this can be showed as an example to say he was just afraid and in his fear he blurted something he never would have if he weren't afraid. But if this is not the case, and if instead they don't have Eustace calling his parents by their first names this could be the worst thing they have changed yet. You might say why does it matter if Eustace calls his parents Father and Mother instead of Harold and Alberta like he does in the book. It makes a huge difference. It not only told people how weird his parents were or how ''up to date'' people they really were, but it tells the character of Eustace. Eustace was a tattle taler. But everyone who hears a young boy(maybe Lucy's age or a year younger or a year older depending on how old people think he is in the movie.) cries ''Mother'' when he is being swept away into another world will immediately think,''He is a Momma's Boy.'' Eustace is in noway a Momma's Boy.Under a certain age people will think nothing of a boy crying ''Mother,''they will not think he is a Momma's Boy. But Eustace is in noway that young, and could not be portrayed in the movie that young with the actor they have chosen. The Eustace they have chosen can only be thought of as at the youngest 10, and at the oldest 16. (which in fact is his real age.) So,knowing that we cannot have Eustace call out,''Mother,'' and get away with it without people thinking he is a Momma's Boy. Eustace was a tattle taler and not a Momma's Boy as I said earlier. Some people may not know the difference so I will explain. ( I am not making this description I will tell you up,I know what they are like, because when I was a child I was a tattle taler.) Anyway, a tattle taler is a child at any age who tend to follow others around the same age or older and if they do anything slightly wrong (even if they do it on accident) will tell on them to an adult or parent so they get in trouble. If you think tattle talers are nice kids that just want to help out and that kids their age just take them as horrible people because they don't want to get in trouble you are wrong. There are kids like that out there that are just trying to do the best for their friends by telling on them but I am not talking about those kids. As I said there are kids like that out there, but very few. The kids I am talking about who want to get everyone in trouble all the time. Now, they don't just tell the adults if you do something wrong, but they make sure you do something wrong and then tell on the adults. They follow you around all day, annoy you to no end, sing songs that you hate on purpose, make up songs that will annoy you on purpose, they smile when you get in trouble (an evil smile), and last of all but not least they scream and yell when they are not hurt in the least to get you in trouble. (And if you don't believe these kids exist you have only to look at my childhood. I was one of these kids. I made up a song called, ''I am a Martyr,'' just to annoy my siblings, and since I was the oldest of the three younger kids I got them to do things with me that would annoy the older siblings.) That is what I am referring to when I say tattle talers. Eustace, I wholeheartedly was one of them. He came into Lucy's room and annoyed them on purpose, he stayed in the room when they wanted him to leave Lucy's room.( In essence, he stayed there to annoy them.) And one of first words out of his mouth were when the pictures waves were really moving was,''I will tell Alberta.'' He threatens to tell his mom. That can only mean one thing. That Eustace was in fact, a tattle taler. A Momma's boy is:A male who needs to hear from or see his mother on a daily basis and definately more then once.So if they change his line from,'' I'll tell Alberta,'' to ''Mother,'' it leaves a different connotation. Plus, if he calls his mum ''Mother'' instead of ''Alberta'' all the kids who haven't read Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be confused why a lot of the fan fics make up that Eustace called his mum,''Mother,'' when he got back from Narnia, and his mum gets upset. Eustace is one of my favorite characters because I was once like him and would have acted like he did. So, to me if they change him to a Momma's boy they have ruined Dawn Treader for me. Because they have ruined my favorite character that ties for first place in my list of favorites with Edmund Pevensie because I was also like Edmund as a child. Please don't do this Apted!
