Fairest rated by Rebekah Walton
I rated it with a C-.The story starts when a young baby is left at an inn in the country of Amonta. Amonta is a country where it is very important to be able to sing well. This young girl is named Aza and is taken care of by the family that runs the inn. Aza has always thought of herself as ugly so when a gnome comes to in the inn she asks him if she will ever be pretty. The gnome who can see into the future declares all humans ugly but her less ugly than all the rest. But he does say that later she will turn into what humans think is pretty. Aza learns a cool singing trick called illusing, which is similar to ventriloquists. A few years later, the King of Amonta was getting married to a commoner from another country and a duchess who stayed several times at Aza’s family’s inn is going to go to the wedding. But on the way to the wedding her maidservant grows sick and so she takes Aza along with her to be her maid. Aza meets the royal family and although she is not a lady the prince after having learned her name calls her ‘‘Lady Aza’’. Instead of correcting him she pretends she is a lady. The Queen learns that Aza can illuse and when the King grows sick appoints Aza as her maidservant and forces Aza to illuse for her. Aza does so but unwillingly. Soon though Aza accidently slips up and the secret that Aza is singing for the Queen instead of the queen singing herself gets out. Sir Uellu the Choirmaster of Queen Ivy suspects that Aza has been blackmailing the Queen, and so for this she should be put in prison. Although this is not true Aza can not prove that the Queen is blackmailing her. Before they put Aza in jail, Aza drinks a bottle of beauty that makes her beautiful. Sir Uellu put Aza in prison but Aza escapes. Although she is nearly eaten by orges she escapes underground to the land of gnomes where she meets the gnome that came to their inn and told her she once would become pretty. Aza stays there but the Queen goes after her and disguises herself as a gnome. She offers Aza an apple and although Aza has never liked apples she bits into it. Aza’s spirit appears in the mirror of Queen Ivy which is not just a normal mirror because a spider lives in the mirror. The spider is really evil and wants to ruin the kingdom. So, she cracks the mirror she is in. After cracking the mirror she immediately goes back into her body and wakes up. Then she travels to the castle and saves the kingdom by convincing the queen that she is beautiful and the king still loves her. The king gets better and makes Aza who has married the Prince Queen and the Prince King. Then the old king and Queen Ivy move away. Aza and her husband rule the kingdom well.I was somewhat satisfied with this ending to the story but I wished we found out more about Aza’s real parents, and although it had a good point I was overall disappointed with the story. The author however, did succeed in making the Snow White story with a twist and was able to show it does not matter what you look like on the outside the story. Even though I was disappointed with the ending,
